Luxury Loire Valley Itinerary
The Loire Valley is one of the finest regions in France for travellers who want more than a succession of famous landmarks. Here, French royal history, Renaissance art, centuries-old vineyards and gastronomy are closely intertwined. This carefully curated private Loire Valley itinerary is designed as a five-day journey through some of the region’s most remarkable places, including Château de Chenonceau, Amboise, Clos Lucé, Blois, Cheverny and Chambord, complemented by private transportation and selected wine experiences.
With Carsons Travel Concierge, the itinerary can be tailored to your preferences, with private guides, château visits, wine tastings, luxury accommodation and restaurant reservations arranged as part of one seamless journey.
DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN THE LOIRE VALLEY

AM-PM: Arrival in the Loire Valley
The journey begins with a private transfer into the Loire Valley, as the scenery gradually changes to the softer, greener landscapes of central France.
Settle into your luxury hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure. This slower first evening creates a natural introduction to the region before exploring its châteaux and vineyards over the days ahead.
Dining is an important part of experiencing the Loire Valley. Carsons Travel Concierge can recommend and reserve top-tier restaurants throughout the journey, carefully selected around your itinerary so that your meals are taken care of in advance.
DAY 2: CHÂTEAU DE CHENONCEAU & THE WINE CELLARS OF THE LOIRE

AM: Private Guided tour of Château de Chenonceau – 2 hours
Begin with one of the Loire Valley’s most graceful landmarks: Château de Chenonceau.
Built across the River Cher, Chenonceau is instantly recognisable for its elegant gallery extending over the water. Yet its beauty is only part of its story. The château is closely associated with some of the most influential women in French history and offers an evocative introduction to Renaissance France.
PM: Private guided visit to Caves Monmousseau – 1.5 hours
After time to explore the château and its surroundings, continue into another defining world of the Loire: wine.
The afternoon brings a visit to traditional cellars carved deep into the region’s tuffeau limestone. These underground galleries naturally maintain the cool, stable conditions required for ageing wine and offer an atmospheric setting in which to discover the region’s winemaking traditions.
The experience also provides an opportunity to understand the distinctive character of Loire sparkling wines and how their history and production differ from those of Champagne.
DAY 3: CHÂTEAU D’AMBOISE, LEONARDO DA VINCI & VOUVRAY

AM: Private guided visit of Château Royal d’Amboise – 1 hour
Today combines royal history, Renaissance genius and one of the Loire Valley’s most celebrated wine appellations.
Begin at Château Royal d’Amboise, an important royal residence overlooking the Loire. During the reign of François I, Amboise became closely connected with the cultural flourishing of the French Renaissance.
Its terraces offer beautiful views across the river and surrounding countryside, while the château is also inseparable from the story of Leonardo da Vinci, whose tomb is located in the Chapel of Saint-Hubert.
PM: Continue to Château du Clos Lucé, Leonardo’s final residence – 1.5 hours
More intimate than the great royal châteaux, Clos Lucé reveals another side of Renaissance history. Leonardo’s private rooms and workshop introduce visitors to his life in France, while the surrounding park brings his inventions and engineering concepts into three-dimensional form.
PM: Leave royal history behind for winetasting the vineyards of Vouvray – 2 hours
A prestige wine tasting introduces Chenin Blanc, the signature grape of this celebrated appellation. The area’s historic limestone cellars provide exceptional ageing conditions, allowing its wines to develop complex notes of honey, dried fruit and wax while retaining their characteristic freshness.
For wine lovers, this combination of Vouvray tasting and private château visits makes this day one of the highlights of a private tour of the Loire Valley.
DAY 4: CHÂTEAU ROYAL DE BLOIS & CHÂTEAU DE CHEVERNY

AM: Leisurely discovery of Blois and Private Guided Tour of the Château Royal de Blois – 3 hours
The day begins in Blois, a historic Loire town shaped by steep streets, stairways and views over the river.
After time to discover the town, visit the Château Royal de Blois.
Few places reveal the evolution of French architecture quite as clearly. Four distinct architectural periods coexist within the château, creating a remarkable visual journey through several centuries of French royal history.
Blois was also the setting for dramatic episodes of court politics, including the assassination of the Duke of Guise, making the château particularly rewarding when explored with a knowledgeable private guide who can bring its personalities and intrigues to life.
PM: Private Guided Tour of Château de Cheverny – 3 hours
Cheverny feels noticeably different from many of the Loire’s grand royal residences. Its beautifully preserved interiors retain the atmosphere of an elegant home rather than a conventional museum, offering a more intimate perspective on château life.
For travellers particularly interested in wine, the day can also be complemented by a visit to a local wine estate. Depending on availability and the season, we can incorporate carefully selected domaines producing lesser-known Loire wines, including those made from the rare Romorantin grape.
DAY 5: CHÂTEAU DE CHAMBORD & PRIVATE TRANSFER TO PARIS

AM: Private Guided Tour of Château de Chambord – 2 hours
The final château is also the most monumental.
Château de Chambord was conceived under François I as an extraordinary expression of Renaissance ambition. Its vast scale, elaborate roofline and famous double-helix staircase make it unlike any other château in the Loire Valley.
Rather than simply functioning as a royal residence, Chambord feels almost like an architectural idea translated into stone — theatrical, intellectual and deliberately impressive.
After your visit, enjoy time for lunch in the area before continuing by private transfer to Paris.
PM: Departure to Paris
Arrival in Paris brings the Loire Valley journey to a natural close, with the evening free to settle into your hotel or continue your French itinerary.
